Congratulations, it probably has the best inkjet printer mechanics in the world. Anyway. The contacts in the carriage are tiny rods on springs. They can loose contact both in front due to ink, or in the back due to softened springs or oxidized carriage PCB. You have to dismantle the carriage to strengthen the springs and to clean their footprints. Second version: probably the flex cable from the main board to the carriage got cracks in the conductor and needs replacement. It happens often with old or heavily used inkjets/design-jets.

Check the paper size settings to match the loaded paper. This would happen (for example) if you have loaded A4 paper but your driver is set to print on letter format. Letter is wider than A4 by 6mm and while the printer is trying to print near to the right side, assuming the paper is wider, part of the ink goes on the paper support. Other reason may be the paper size in the document is set to be larger than the loaded paper format and driver prints only what can be fit on the loaded paper.

55.4 is Communication timeout. It is about communication between electronic components inside and indicates bad or broken connection. Are you sure there is zero after the 4?

Please, make sure the paper is well aligned and there are no gaps between side guides and the paper in the tray. If the paper is correctly positioned in the paper tray, probably your paper width sensor is not working - full with toner, displaced, disconnected or faulty. The paper passes trough the printer, but the sensor does not report the expected width for letter paper and the printer assumes it is A4 or other with less width than letter. The sensor is a plastic flag on a spring passing between optocoupler. Below the toner cartridge there is a rectangular metal paper guide with a narrow cutout on the far right. The flag's arm should be inside the cutout. Check if it's not blocked. It should be rotating freely in paper movement direction and the spring should get it back in vertical position. The optocoupler is right below the flag, but is accessible from below, after removing the High Voltage Power Supply PCB.

I like how people give answers that they copied and pasted from a generic prompt system that by the way are completely useless 90% of the time. Anyways if your hp b8550 printer or similar model is giving general error code and everything else works , power start up usb connection, ect. Heres the problem and how to fix it for about $3.00. On the right side of the printer there is a panel held on by clips, pull it off. You will see a small black gearbox. Pull on it lightly, if it feels loose just pull it off and out of the printer because the center gear is cracked. Its very common for this gear to break and its only held onto the rod by compression. Anyways remove the metal clip to expose the gears, there will be three, examine the middle one, if it is indeed cracked, you will need to get a replacement online, it is a hp 15t gear. Once you replaced gear, with power off, move carriage all the way to the right and hold there while pushing gear box back onto rod. Good as new. $3.00 and about 10 min of labor. A child could do it but all these so called experts want to charge an arm and a leg and probably not even fix it.

Make sure you have good consumables (print cartridges AND printheads). Sometimes calibrations don't happen when the proper ink pattern is not laid on the paper and then scanned by the machine.
One other thing to look for...when the carriage moves back and forth during calibration, you should be able to see a small blue/green light on the side of the carriage assembly when it moves back and forth. No light, bad sensor. If you see a light then the cover that protects this light may be stuck closed. Some things to look for...good luck

Sounds like you have power but just a blank screen which usually points to the formatter. Before replacing formatter Part#CN727-67042 try uninstalling/reinstalling the formatter.
