Question about Panasonic PV-GS2 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

Try to playback the tape and the screen is all blue

Initially, when I tried to playback the tape I had blue stripes on the screen. I used the head cleaner tape for 10 seconds according to the instructions and the blue stripes disappeared. I took the tape out to see another tape and now the screen is all blue. I used the head cleaner again for 10 seconds, tried the tape again and still blue. 10 more seconds with the head cleaner and still blue. In addition, on the bottom left side of the screen you see now only -- -- -- where before you could see the date and time. Please help! Thanks, Antonio

Your heads motor ( drum ) cable may have have come loose or is dirty - since the cleaning tape made some difference the heads were dirty or almost worn out ( cleaner tape is abrasive ) so now there isn ' t enough signal ; if your date and time display worked only in play ? ( still works for camera record video ) your guides were out of alignment - and the cleaning tape took your guides even further out of alignment ( alignment here starts at $ 50 + shipping )

You have a clogged video head. It happens. Do not use the chamois again. Instead, purchase an 8mm head cleaner and give that a try. Only use a brand name cleaner - no generics, and make sure it doesn't come from China!

Power turns off after about 10 secs of watching the video

First guess is the camera has dirty heads. Suggestion is to run a head cleaner in your video camera. Regardless of the instructions on the head cleaner, I usually run the head-cleaner tape on "Play" for about 10 to 15 seconds, and then on "Record" another 10 to 15 seconds. Wait for 10 minutes before loading your playback tape. Try playing your tape again.

Also, check to be sure the tape is loaded properly and that the hatch closes securely and properly. A hastily loaded tape or an ill-fitting closure could cause the play function to stop.

If this does not solve the issue, it may be something in the play switch or in the playback mechanism that requires repair services. If the problem continues, I would recommend calling the Panasonic Company and speak with Tech support or Video Camera Repair. They may be able to tell you and estimate of what it would cost for the repair.

Thick stripes on the recording on mini dv tapes

Stripes are either caused by -
Bad tape - try a new tape
Dirty tape head - can it be cleaned? Cotton wool bud and some metho?
Electronic fault.
Try a different tape first.
If that doesn't help, clean the head. Is it under warranty?

LCD shows stripes thus the picture is not complete

Mine was similar - with vertical black lines on playback. Visit Bristolcameras.co.uk, enter your make and model and ask for a head cleaner. They sent me one within 4 days and that was over the Christmas period. Reasonably priced too (£3.50 + p&p) and the whole head cleaner can be used up to twice once the tape has gone from beginning to end.

Hello,

Sorry about delayed reply as I just saw it.

Its known problem of ccd imager in Canon ZR85 camcorder and ccd imager needs to be replaced.

Canon will repair your camcorder free of cost as per announced scheme for ccd imager issue.

Click Canon CCD Advisory for details, how to get free repair.

Regarding can't see picture or time code in playback, it is problem of dirty / clogged video heads. Use good quality video head cleaning cassette to clean heads and hope camera will show playback picture.

Good luck.
