Question about Honda Motorcycles

1 Answer

We have cleaned the carbs and replaced the jets on the 1981 Honda. We put the jets back to OEM specs. Now the bike acts like it's flooding at half throttle. Any suggestions?

After thinking about it amd doing some research... we took the carb back off and rejetted the bike again... This time we ignored the oem specs and took into account our elevation, changed out the spark plugs, found a bad boot replaced it, found a vacume line that was leaking...Voila, the bike is up and running like a top. While some people scream "take it to a professional." I say "know how to work on your bike, all of it. It's better then being broke down and ignorant of how to fix it". Don't be afraid to ask questions to expand your knowledge. Thank you for everyone for the advise.

Pull the slide out of the carb then remove the jet needle and move the clip one notch lower on the needle.

You need to fix the fueling first - without fuel it won't run!
Your other problem sounds like an air leak - either the manifold or the carb. Check by spraying WD-40 or CRC at the manifold and carb join while the bike is running - if the revs change (either up or down) you have a leak.

2005 Honda Shadow VT600CD backfires through the carburetor

Hi, Donnie if your carburetor or exhaust is:
COUGHING is usually caused by an air leak in the intake system and will generally have the same telltale signs, a wet or damp build up of oil/gas seepage at the intake manifold to cylinder head or carburetor to intake manifold connection and in rare instances a worn throttle plate shaft and or seals.
POPPING on deceleration is usually caused by a lean fuel condition or an air leak in the exhaust system and is generally located where black carbon soot is seen as a flashing build up from any joint connection. This condition can easily be remedied by removing and cleaning both joint pieces and reassembling with high temp silicone and torquing the exhaust clamp to the proper spec.
SPITTING is usually caused by a faulty accelerator pump and or nozzle, or the float bowl needle and seat leaking and overflowing through the main jet mixing well nozzle, or the air-fuel mixture screw is adjusted too lean.
BACKFIRING is usually caused by a sticky/tight intake valve or a timing issue, 180 degrees out or cam chain off 1or 2 teeth.

I have a 1990 cbr 600 just cleaned the carbs and when i started the bike it dies when i give it throttle please help also idileing high 2k -3k

sounds like a fuel restriction or flooding.. check the fuel filter or kinked fuel line.clogged pitcock....you could have not put he jets in right and your flooding out the motor..check throttle return spring.. set the floats correctly?...you must use the measuring gauge in the carb rebuild kit to measure the correct float hight after rebulding the carb and replacing the floats...

Bike floods its self constantly, i drain the carb bowls, it starts then floods after not even 1 minute of running....

The fuel is probably flooding due to trash in carb, remove the fuel bowl, clean float needle, clean jet and the orfaces in it.(if dirt is in it clean the rest of the fuel system to keep it from happening again.) Spray cleaner does good.

I need a detailed diagram of the carbs for my 1981 GSX 1100. The one in the Haynes manual I have is not very detailed.

Google babbitts sports center.com then click on buy oem parts and then select your specific bike. A parts diagram will come up, change the page from 'air cleaner' to 'carburetor' on the drop down menu and you can see your carb assembly. Hope this helps...

My honda xr 250 mototrcycle wont idle, i took the carb off to clean it out cuz it had been sitting with gas in it for awhile. so im wondering if when i cleaned it if i changed my jetting?

Cleaning a carb will not change the jetting. The problem is in the pilot jet. This jet regulates the idle. Pull the carb off again and re-clean it. Remove the air screw and the throttle screw and spray carb cleaner into every hole you can find. Pay special attention to the air screw hole. Now put both screws back in the holes they came out of and turn them inward until they LIGHTLY seat. Now back each screw out one and one half turns. You are back to factory settings now. Get the pilot jet cleaned out and the bike will idle.

XR 100 didnt move for a year.My bad so i cleaned the carb, jets, floats, needle slide. Motor cycle starts on the 1st kick with choke on full idles fine. When you touch the throtle or click the choke to middle...

First Make sure you have all new fresh gas,and new fuel filter,Then check the intake tube between the head and carb for cracks or leaks,And You'll need to go back through the carb again as this is a carb issue,But without doing the above first,a clean carb won't be clean for long.

!983 honda magna v45 clutch not engaging

if you rebuilt your carburetors you have made a mistake when you reassembled them a carb must sprsy a fine mist of "dry" fuel into the engine intake your carbs are flooding you need to check your fuel floats , jets and, don't forget to check the power piston circuit and, balance (sync) your carbs on the bike when you're done
your chuch is fine if you did not touch it
