Question about 1997 Nissan Pickup

1 Answer

My 97 Nissan Pickup's brake and battery instrument lights stay on, when the truck is running, causing the battery voltage to drain. I suspect a "short circuit" somewhere...I need to know where to look.

These warning lights are an indication that your alternator is not producing output voltage.in very rare instances it is a supply circuit problem to the alternator but 9 out of 10 the failure is the alternator itself.best bet would be to have a charging system test performed to confirm.hope this helps.please let me know.

On my 1991 Nissan pickup, the tail lights stay on even with ignition and light switch turned off. It's drained the battery so my only solution is to remove the bulbs. Any suggestions ?

Are you sure it is the tail lights, or could it be the brake lights? If it is the tail lights, the light switch should be replaced. If it is the brake lights, there is a switch operated by the brake pedal whitch could be stuck or otherwise inoperative and should be replaced.

Brake light stays on

the switch for your brake lights is located near your brake pedal,it is usually a spring loaded switch that comes out when the pedal is pushed & the pedal pushes it back in when it is released, this switch may have come loose & is active all the time, you need to make sure that it is pushed hard up against the brake pedal & tighten the adjusting screws to lock it in position, check that your stop lights come on when the brake pedal is pushed in....hope this helps....cheers

97 nissan sentra with brake and battery light staying lit after changing battery. when it goes into passing gear light goes off then comes back on

These lights will come on if your alternator isn't charging fully. With a multi meter test your voltage at the battery with the engine running. The voltage should be above 14 volts. If it is below 14 you will need to replace the alternator.

1995 Nissan Sentra, The engine light and brake

You could have faulty altenator or short causing the battery to drain. The engine light usually comes on when anything electrical or sensor wise is faulty. Brake light will come on if, low brake fluid, e-brake handle is up.

Brake lights stay on

There should be a blue plastic piece, shaped like a button. It sits in a hole at the top of the brake pedal directly in front of the switch. When the brake is off, this little plastic button pushes the switch to turn off the lights.

Battery and brake indicator light stays on after start

When the lights are on check the battery voltage. Should be 13.0 to 14.5. If you unplug the connector on the alternator when the lights are on, do they go off?

Brake and battery lights stay on

when both lights stay on with the car running it usually indicates an alternator that is not charging at an acceptable voltage level. check the battery voltage with the car running, if it is under 13.5V you should replace your alternator.
