Question about 1998 Nissan Frontier

1 Answer

I have a 1998 Nissan Frontier and I believe there is an electrical problem but I don't know where to look. i noticed that my ''Brake'' and ''Battery'' light was coming on and off and when it did my headlights would dim. Now they stay on and this morning while driving I turned on my defroster and the car acted like it was missing and sputtering. Also some of the other lights are now flashing on and off like the ''Air Bag'' and ''ABS'' lights. I checked the battery terminals to make sure it had proper connection and that seemed fine, also I installed a new battery and a Nissan alternator a couple of months ago and everything was running smooth until this week. What could be wrong?

With a volt meter and the engine at idle, check the voltage at the battery. It should always be just over 12 up to 14 volts. At idle with no accessorys on (lights, fan, radio ect.) The voltage should stay just over 12 volts. As you turn on all the accessorys the voltage should rise up to between 12-14 volts.
Also, a new battery needs to be fully charge before use. Most new batterys sit on the shelf and lose charge. My last new battery needed 8 hours of chargeing to be fully charged.
I hope this helps.

Replace the brake light switch and the light is still on a 1998 nissan Frontier. I remove the old switch and put a new one on the same problem. Light is still on.

Check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder and make sure the E-brake is not on. The "BRAKE" light does not come on because the brake switch is bad.

Blowing fuses on taillight of 1998 nissan frontier

If it is the taillights and not the third brake light, then make sure you put the correct size fuse in and that the bulbs are the right size.

2005 Nissan Frontier...when I step on the brakes my right turn signal comes on but doesn't blink? when I turn on the Left turn signal and step on the brakes, it blinks just fine! What's causing this?????

If the turn signal bulbs are the same as the turn signal bulbs it would indicate the brake light on the left is not working. If the brake lights AND the right turn signal come on it could indicate a wire is getting a cross feed from an improper source. If you are comfortable with electrical systems - If you have a tow package you may want to check the wires to the trailer. Otherwise have it checked by an electrical shop.
