You have either a bad regulator or a grounded field wire.

Voltage regulator is going bad. Have alternator tested or go ahead and have it replaced. Also this would be a good time to have the battery tested. Usually an alternator that is over charging will "cook" the battery causing it to not charge, not hold a charge, to losing the gel/electrolyte solution due to boil out.

After changing battery with brand new battery my windows don't roll down my horn won't work my blinkers won't work my abs and ESP light won't turn off my radio won't work and my car drained the battery...

It sounds like you have a major electrical problem OR your alternator isn't charging the battery. Try recharging the battery and check that everything is working properly, then start the engine and check the voltage at the battery when the engine is running. The voltage should be at least 14 volts. if it's lower your alternator is likely bad.

Car won't start charged the batterystill will not start but does start with a jump why?

You may have a bad alternator. Recommend you check the voltage at the battery with the engine running. Jump start the car, remove the jumper cables, then check the voltage. If less that 14 volts, your alternator is failing. If you don't have a voltmeter, recommend you remove the alternator and take it to your local parts chain for testing. Let me know if you need instructions, and thanks for using FixYa.

2002 Kia Rio Alternator question

an alternator has no certain life. it all depends on the load and etc, when running it should read at least be14-15 volts at battery, when off it should be at least 13-14 at battery. after a while the bearings or regulator in alternator may go but, this is life.

I am trying to tell if my alternator or battery is shot she starts up with a jumper cable and a light on the dash shows and exclamination point with a circle around it its a 2002 audi a4 quarto

once you get it started, while its running, simply disconnect the positive battery wire. if the car stays running then your altenator is fine, and its the battery thats bad. if it dies immediately, then the altenator is shot and battery is fine.

Charging system light

Have the alternator checked,it should read at the battery 13.65 volts to 14.25 volts, with the ac on high blower, and the headlights on.If it does not read this range, replace it,have the battery checked, make sure it is good, have it load checked. Also tighten the alternator belt,or replace the tensioner if needed, and the belt.

Audi a4 alternator not charging battery--test

With volt meter on battery start car and read voltage. When yo first put the meter on a full charged battery it should read between 13-15 volts. When you first start motor the voltage should go 3-4volts higher then when you first put it on. And then tapper down after awhile. If there is no voltage increase after start alternator is out.

Hi, Irratic revs when idle

You need to reset the throttle body. Sometimes you can do this by going out to your car and turning the key to the "on" position. Don't crank the engine - just turn it to on. Let it sit like this for 15 min. Your throttle body shoulld reset. Good luck. Check out audiforums. c o m or audiworld for audi spec issues. Good luck!

Battery charge spiked up on 1994 jeep grand cherokee ltd.

check the battery cable connections, are they clean and tight? This can cause the charging system to spike and go into the 16-17 volt range, the other thing is a problem with either the alternator or the voltage regulator, a diode that is failing can cause this issue.
