I also had this problem along with a clunk sound when I turn my steering wheel.
After disconnecting the battery for 30 min I proceeded to take off the 3 small covers on my steering wheel and then take off the 2 bolts that hold my airbag on.
What I found was what looks to be a piece of metal the used to be attached to 3 small rubber pillars that went to a small thin piece of metal that was screwed into the steering wheel housing that had all 3 of the rubber pillars broken and big metal piece was just flopping around inside the steering wheel causing the horn to go off when I turned.
No one can tell me what this part is so I just removed it and put it back together and every thing seems to be working fine now.
It did not seem to have any thing to do with the Airbag as the airbag came off in 1 piece.
It has been suggested to me that it was some sort of balancing weight for the steering wheel. Even the Nissan dealer could not tell me what it was.
Any ways it seems fine with out it.
Do not run this vehicle. I think you have a blown head gasket. If there is anti freeze in the piston area you may have to replace the engine as anti freeze will seize the engine. DO NOT RUN Timing chain could be broken.
many EFI fuel injected engines of today vintage only get 10 litres to 100 km so 11 is not too bad
lower the float level a touch, check and adjust the fuel pressure to a minimum open up the air intake before the air filter, tire sizing ( narrower tire widths reduce rolling resistance ) tire pressures are critical,, reducing load being carried
if it has a cat converter make sure that it is functional and not blocking the exhaust
check for vacuum leaks , check ignition timing
ensure that the brake callipers are free to move on the mounting pins ( stuck pins leave a pad dragging on the rotor
wheel alignment to reduce tire drag on the road
ok i have the same truck my timing was off 3 teeth but mine wouldn't kick out of high idle is y mine was surging but know with timing right no vacuum leaks i cant get it below 1400 but when a vacuum turns on it almost kills my engine any thoughts i know i got a vacuum line mixed up idk were though
sounds to me like you have a clutch issue. quick test for you to perform. put truck in 5th gear and pull / engage the e-brake and try to take off, just like if you were in 1st gear. If truck does'n stall, clutch is weak and you will need to check it. good luck.
Got a 85 Nissan 720 4x4 with the 2.4 engine with Weber.Have them test the alternator after you take it off, also check your fusible links and your positive battery cable connected to starter and the negative battery cable that is grounded to engine. My truck has a volt meter telling me what the system is doing which normal is 14.5 volts while running, battery should read about 12.6 when not running, could also be that your alternator belt is loose, maybe change that while your at it.You can crank engine up,have hood open, rev engine up and watch belts turn to make sure they are not loose.I f you need,I can send you a free repair guide on your Nissan. Here's mine. 85 Nissan 720 4x4 Silverbullet 4 with Samantha YORKIE at the wheel look out
